Welcome to Lightners Live Plus, a fangame recreation of the rhythm game from Deltarune Chapter 3!

It has maps of most of the main tracks from Chapters 1 and 2, as well some bonus preview and unused tracks. If enough people are interested, I'll be working on adding  Chapter 3 and 4 maps in after that comes out too. I'm also going to be working on trying to get custom map support, although that's going to be difficult, so I can't say when that will be yet. If you want more info on updates, follow me on Bluesky and Twitter, I'll be posting about this game on there. Also check out my youtube :) All of those are linked below. If you enjoy the game, feel free to share it if you want, including recording/streaming on YouTube/Twitch/wherever else if you want to! (also feel free to let me know, I'd love to watch!)

Controls are mostly the same as UTDR in the café, and arrow keys, A&D, F&J, S&K (or any combination of those you want) or bumpers/triggers (on controller) in the main rhythm game. Cancel (X on keyboard, B or Circle on controller) will take you back to the café when a map is being played. F4 (or Back/Share on controller) will toggle fullscreen. Controls in menus will generally be shown on the bottom of the screen, updating depending on your input method (keyboard or controller)

FAQ:

Q: The notes aren't quite synced up with the music, how can I fix that?

A: There may be some latency depending on your setup (browser, device, input method). However, the game can account for this! There should have been a message telling you this when you the first time you booted it up, but if it's been a while and you forgot: to set this up, talk to Swatch in the café, and adjust the "Latency Offset" value. You can press C(/X/Square on controller) in that menu to load a map that's just a metronome with notes on the beats, that will let you change the value in real time so you can hone in on the perfect value for you.

Q: I'm having problems on Firefox, is that just me?

A: Unfortunately the game has some big issues on Firefox, the map just doesn't load sometimes (or always). I strongly recommend using Chrome/a Chromium based browser for this game, sorry.

Q: The game is lagging a lot and/or shows a warning about lots of lag, what can I do about this?

A: This can be caused by graphics acceleration being disabled in browser settings, try turning it on. To do this in desktop Chrome, click the three dots in the top right, then click settings. Then go to "System" on the left bar (or search "acceleration"), and turn ON the setting labelled "Use graphics acceleration when available". It'll probably be similar in other browsers (although again, Firefox is not recommended).

Q: So this is a browser game... if I open it on my phone's browser will that work?

A: Good question! It really depends. It doesn't work on my phone (which is pretty old and bad), but I've had other people test it and it works ok for them. So it's not something I'm officially supporting (since I can't really test it myself), but I added touch controls so you can play it if it works for you. Connecting a controller should work too if you'd rather have physical buttons.

Q: The game isn't taking up the full window, only part of it, how can I fix that?

A: This seems to be just a problem with some setups, this never happens for me but does happen for some other people. To fix, press F4 (or Back/Share on controller) twice (or just once to keep playing in fullscreen).

Q: The first few notes of some maps are slight off, why is that?

A: Unfortunately that's just a problem I haven't been able to fully fix yet, I'll hopefully fix that (and some inconstancies with the hold notes) at some point

Q: I have some other problem, what can I do?

A: Sorry about that! I really rushed to get this released before Ch3&4, so I wasn't able to do quite as much bug testing as I would have liked. Let me know about it in the comments and I'll try to help/fix it.

Q: WHERE ARE CUSTOM MAPS???!!!!

A: I was originally wanting to launch with them, but I realized that that would mean it probably wouldn't be ready to launch until after Ch3&4's launch. I really wanted to release before then, so I released without custom levels, and I'll be working on them to hopefully include them in a post-launch update.

Q: Will there be a downloadable version?

A: For now I'm only doing a web version, since it's a bit simpler for me to only have one build to worry about. But if people end up having problems with the web version, I might add downloadable builds too.

Q: Where can I see more of the alternate music tracks?

A: They're all 8 bit covers made by me, I make them of UTDR and a bunch of other indie games too, here's a playlist of all my Deltarune covers :) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqecgpxgx90Q_tH-p88VKLBE_3TVTZcQj

I'll be making a bunch of Ch3&4 covers, so consider subscribing if that interests you :)

This is a really well made and fun fangame, but when i try to fc the queen battle original there is one slide note that is impossible to hit. I've tried hitting it really early, hitting it really late, and mashing the button, but I always miss it and lose my combo. Is this a glitch or do i just suck at the game

Would be cool to have some undertale songs here

I'd definitely like to do Undertale maps at some point, although Ch3&4 tracks will be first. The only problem with adding even more maps is that it will make the file size larger (and by extension make initial load time longer) but more maps is worth it so I'll likely do it anyway.

(+1)

i know people gonna be gooning to that tasque manager

Could we ever have Undertale tracks on here? I feel like there's a lot of potential for that.

absolute cinema

This is great!

i’ve had a pretty bad bug happen a few times where releasing a held note even slightly too late deducts 200 points, and holding notes longer than a beat or so (even when they’re shown that way in the beatmap) deducts 200 points every tick until the key is released. seems to randomly fix itself sometimes and i don’t know why, but it also randomly comes back.

great game aside from that! really love the attention to detail

edit: it seems to consistently happen after the game window loses focus

Oh sorry, can't seem to replicate that myself. What browser are you using? Firefox seems to cause a lot of problems so if it's that, Chrome/a Chromium based browser should hopefully work better. And are you playing on desktop or mobile? Mobile is just more buggy unfortunately. The really weird thing is that it shouldn't even be possible to get the penalty while holding the button, it specifically uses the just_pressed() function, which only counts the first frame it's pressed. I'll look more into it and see if I can find out the cause.

(+1)

can't wait for custom maps

(+2)

Awsome game. My  fingers hurt.

(+2)

i was playing a round, when i stopped i got some sort of weird wavey illusion, everything looked like if it was liquid XD

(+1)

Lol yeah I've had that too, it's called the motion aftereffect illusion

(+2)

super fun!!

(+2)

There's a small bug where it still detects key presses and subtracts from the score on the score screen, also I wish there was an option to rebind the controls.

Fun game, I'm interested to see where this goes after Ch3&4 are released.

(+1)

Oh, thanks for telling me about the score screen bug, it'll be fixed in the next patch. Yeah a control rebinding menu is something I'd like to implement at some point, but it will probably take a while since custom maps is the next main feature I'm going to work on. Until I get that working, if there's a specific bind you'd like I can add it as an additional input myself so it will work as well as the current ones, as long as that button isn't used for something else

(+1)

Will controlling Ralsei like in the Deltarune 1-4 trailer also be added?

I wanted to address this properly while also speculating what Deltarune's version will be like, so I made a big thread on my socials about it, here's the link: https://bsky.app/profile/ezioeagle.bsky.social/post/3lq5tkddj4s2n
tl;dr maybe eventually as alternate difficulties, but not to played simultaneously since I'm pretty sure that won't be how it works in deltarune because of how hard it would be, and because looking at the score and max combo, it doesn't seem to increase when his notes are hit, so I'm pretty confidant that only Kris' part is controlled by the player there. Ralsei's and Susie's parts could be alternate difficulties though, with Ralsie's being an easy mode, and Susie's being a hard mode that's unlocked once you beat Kris' (which is why it's crossed out, not just a joke about not being able to control her)

(1 edit) (+1)

Trying to get 80% on Queen Battle Original was torture, but the fun kind of torture. I love the fun kind of torture, so this is an 8/10 for me!

(+1)

Yooo that game is really good, waiting for future updates!

(+3)

Years of FNF finally paid off!

...In all seriousness this is a great game!

(+2)

This game is actually pretty fun, but unfortunately, I suck at it.

(+1)

HOLY PEAK! THANK YOU!

(+1)

i can't seem to interact with anything, what are the controls to interact

Z on keyboard, or A(xbox)/X(PS) on controller, yeah I'll add that to the description too

(+1)

This is really good! Only feedback I really have is the overworld section. I have done a lot with that in Godot and have gotten it very accurate to UT/DR. Everything else is very good though and the overworld is very insignificant here. Do you ever plan on releasing the source code for this project?

Probably not sorry, but glad you like it!

(+1)

No problem. Good job!

(+1)

You absolute madlad, releasing this less than 9 days before the Toby does. Awesome work because this is super fun lol

(+1)

Super well made — can't wait to see more tracks (also player-custom tracks?)

(+1)

Thanks, glad you like it! Yeah I was originally wanting to launch with custom maps, but that would have taken a while so it likely wouldn't have been able to launch before Ch3&4. But I will be working on custom maps, to hopefully release them in a future update!

(+1)

You gotta add Friend Inside Me!

That is a banger but I think I'm going to stick to just original deltarune tracks (for now at least, idk maybe in the future), whenever I get custom maps working, you (or anyone else) can make your own map for it!

Bet

Oh sweet! GL with the development

(+1)

awesome

(+2)

this is extremely addictive haha, i love this

(+1)

It doesn't seem to be playing music or notes at all in any of the maps.

Are you using Firefox? The weird way it loads Godot itch.io games causes it to break often. So try Chrome/Chromium based browser instead if you're using Firefox.

Ah, yeah, that's a shame. Oh well.

As an avid rhythm game fan, this is pretty well made. I do wanna know if it's intentional how precise it is, given it seems impossible to get a full 100 point amount, only 99 at most. Also feel like I should mention something important about Queen Battle Original: It's impossible to FC. Around the 210th notes, there's a short hold that can't be pressed, probably due to dropped inputs.

Was gonna showcase my Scores on all Very Hard/Impossible songs here but itch is supposedly having server issues so uhh guess I won't.

(+1)

Thanks, glad you like it! Yeah I think scoring 100 should *technically* be possible, but it would be very rare rng basically, since you'd need to have the correct frametimes for the note to line up perfectly on the correct Y value. It's just specifically intentional, just a side effect of how scoring it done, but yeah I might do a bit of a scoring overhaul at some point.
Oh and thanks for telling me about the Queen Battle Original problem, turns out I just accidently placed 2 notes in the same space there, so you'd hit one of them but not the other. I've fixed it now, and it'll be in the next patch. I'm not just pushing that as a tiny patch now because the way it works right now, any changes to the map will mean the high score is reset to 0 (which is often good for big changes, but for tiny fixes like this I'd much rather it didn't wipe the score). So I'm working on a way to carry over specific scores if I want it to, for small changes like this. That'll hopefully be done and out either later today or tomorrow.

(+2)

this is the greatest thing ever

(2 edits) (+2)

Wait this is actually really fun. Honestly if I could say one thing I kind of wish the game would give accuracy as a percentage out of the total points you could have earned like a lot of rhythm games do instead of just out of how many notes you hit, or just give both, but that is a very small thing.

(+2)

Thanks! Yeah I'd like to get that working, I'll probably do a bit of an overhaul of scoring at some point

(+2)

Tried launching this through the Itch launcher. Getting an error for missing features: "Cross-Origin Isolation" and "SharedArrayBuffer"

(+1)

Ah, if the itch launcher doesn't support SharedArrayBuffer (and I assume Cross-Origin Isolation too, not sure what that is though), then yeah it won't work there unfortunately, does it work for you if you just open it in browser? (ideally chrome/chromium based since godot itch.io games gave a lot of issues with firefox)

(+1)

Loved it

(+1)

Amazing game! Am happy to report it works on safari as well for all my fellow chromophobic ppl :v

(1 edit) (+1)

Really enjoying this game. I can tell a lot of effort went into implementing these tracks especially with how many there are

(+3)

I really really loved it!
Hope there's a downloadable version soon though, a friend really wants to play the songs but starts having lag and desyncs mid-song.
Not for me though, I'm having a blast!
Keep it up and take your time!! ^^

(+2)

I love it, when i see Godot

(+1)

this is so so super good. great job on this

(+4)

Hey so this is really fun!
one thing i would like to suggest is adding an option for remapping the controls, i found  myself wanting to hit the notes with F and J like in musedash.

(+3)

A full control rebinding menu is something I'd like to add eventually, but it's a pretty big task. Luckily Godot is cool so just adding an additional accepted input is super easy as long as it's not already used for something else, so I just updated it so that those controls work as well now!

(1 edit) (+3)

For a game made based off of very little footage, this is VERY good!  Simple yet a fun rhythm game and I can tell you put a lot of effort into this.  Really can't wait to see this updated in the future with the new songs we'll see in later chapters, keep up the great work!
